Important Timing Tip
We strongly recommend contacting the embassy before ordering your criminal background check. FBI background checks are only valid for 6 months, and embassy appointments can sometimes be scheduled several months out. Verify the next available appointment dates first to ensure your criminal record will still be valid when you submit your application.

What to Bring
- Your complete application package (organized as described in the previous step)
- Valid U.S. passport
- Application fee payment (check embassy website for current fee amount and payment methods)
- Copies of all documents (for your records)
- Appointment confirmation (if provided)
Review your application package one final time to ensure all documents are present, properly organized, and have the necessary apostilles and translations.
At the Embassy
Know what to expect during your embassy visit and what happens after you submit your application.
During Your Appointment
A consular officer will review your application and documents to ensure everything is complete and properly formatted.
You may be asked SIMPLE questions about your Croatian heritage, family history, and reasons for seeking citizenship. You don't need to speak Croatian.
Pay the application fee according to the embassy's accepted payment methods.
You'll receive a receipt and possibly tracking information to check your application status.
After Submission
The processing time for Croatian citizenship applications typically ranges from 12 to 18 months, but can sometimes take longer.
Be prepared to provide additional information or documents if requested during the processing period. If you hire a professional to review your application, chances are this won't happen.
