Three Steps
Check Your Application Status
There are several ways to monitor the progress of your Croatian citizenship application.
Contact the embassy or consulate where you submitted your application. They can provide basic status updates, though they may not have detailed information about applications being processed in Croatia.
Simply send a friendly email to pitanja@mup.hr asking for an update on your application every 3 months. Include your full name, date of birth, and application reference number (if you have one). Croatian officials are generally responsive and helpful.
If you hire a lawyer or professional service to assist with your application, they can often check the status on your behalf and tend to have better access to information.
Respond to Additional Requests
Croatian authorities sometimes request additional information or documents during the application process.
If you receive a request for additional information, respond as quickly as possible to avoid delays in processing your application.
Authorities might request clarification on family relationships, additional proof of Croatian ancestry, or updated documents if any have expired during the processing period.
Any new documents you submit should follow the same standards as your original application—properly translated and with apostilles if required.
Prepare for the Decision
As your application nears completion, prepare for the next steps based on the decision.
If Approved
- You'll be notified by the embassy/consulate
- You'll need to schedule an appointment to take the citizenship oath
- After the oath, you can apply for your Croatian passport
If Denied
- You'll receive a written explanation for the denial
- You may have the option to appeal the decision
- Consider consulting with a Croatian immigration lawyer for advice on next steps
